First Date

A little while back, Carla and I went on a first date, although it wasn't ours. We went to Cosi for dinner, and we were seated ridiculously close to another couple. As a result, we were able to hear their ENTIRE conversation, and it was obvious that they were on a first or second date. It actually was rather humorous. At one point we tried to talk about something, but as soon as we looked up from our food and made eye contact, we lost it, laughing histerically. I think the awkwardness of being able to hear everything they were saying got to us, and the fact that they were on a first date made their conversation even more humorous. I can't remember everything they said, but I will give you some advice about what NOT to talk about on your first date.

First, don't tell the person you're with that you live paycheck to paycheck. This topic bodes well for a fifth or sixth date conversation, but could be detrimental to a first date.

AND

Second, don't recount every detail of the first time you met (which in this case happened to be five months prior) and how you tried each others water ice, the flavors you had and such. That has the potential to creep someone out. Again, better to be left for a fifth or sixth date (or maybe after you get engaged), when a memory such as that would be considered sweet and endearing, and not creepy and stalkerish.

It's all about timing people!

However, I will say, the couple did seem to be having a good time, and neither of these things seemed to cause a lull in the conversation. So, here's to the couple from Cosi. I wish you well! Cosi has a great reputation for first dates. In case you don't know it's where Carla and I had ours.

...on December 18th, 2002, and we shared cheesecake (see, that was cute, not creepy).

How sweet. Made me smile. :)

Also, dad told me that you prayed with him while you were in to visit the other day. He teared up when he told me. It really meant a lot to him.

Love you guys.
