Easter

I was thinking this morning of how incredible it must have been for the disciples and followers of Jesus to see him alive after they had seen him crucified only days before. The scriptures even say that after his crucifixion "They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead." Imagine being a follower of Christ, beginning to believe that he is the Messiah, and then seeing him crucified, not understanding that it needed to happen for the Scriptures to be fulfilled. Imagine the pain and the confusion they must have felt as they played back in their minds all the experiences and interactions they had with Jesus before he was crucified. Imagine walking with a friend, discussing the events that had transpired over the past couple of days, and being greeted by a man who opened up the Scriptures to explain all that they said and prophesied about Jesus the Christ. And then imagine your eyes being opened and realizing that the man talking to you is Jesus himself, flesh and blood, fully alive, fully aware, fully Himself, risen from the dead. How amazing that must have been!
